Today is Chandeleur in France, which is a Christian holiday that commemorates the Presentation in the Temple and is celebrated by lighting candles at midnight as a means of purification. Like so many other religious holidays in France, however, it has now become an occasion to eat a particular type of food. In this case, it’s crêpes! Today also happens to be DD’s birthday and I can only imagine his joy as a little boy when he was presented with a large plate of Chantal’s homemade crêpes for dinner year after year on his special day. Since I am taking DD out to a restaurant for his birthday tonight, he made a version of his mum’s recipe for our dinner last night and afterward he spent another hour making crêpes to bring to work for his colleagues today (bless his heart). Lucky for me, we still have some batter left in the fridge for Saturday morning!
