newsweek-paris-france:

Somewhere between Benard Buffet and Baffin Bay, these skeletal trees on Avenue Wagram near the Arc de Triomphe give a graphic sense of the bright, sharp cold that has settled in on Paris.

It’s COLD in Paris right now.  SO COLD.  I’m from NE Ohio so I’m no wimp when it comes to freezing temperatures, but what I’m not used to is having only two small space heaters to warm up an entire apartment.  I’m trying to tell myself that I’m lucky to have a roof over my head, but yesterday I had to wear two pairs of socks, jeans, a long-sleeve shirt, a heavy wool sweater, a thermal hoodie of DD’s, and gloves (I discovered that those nifty iPhone gloves also work for the mouse pad on Macs!) while sitting under TWO blankets just to feel somewhat comfortable.  Showering is unbearable when it’s ice cold in your bathroom and you have one of those stupid European shower fixtures where you’re forced to put the water down in order to shampoo your hair, etc.  It’s supposed to be like this until the middle of next week.
On the plus side, I recently heard that being cold burns more calories.  So there’s that.
