newsweek:

So here we are still reeling from the past two weeks of ‘Mad Men’-mania, when we stumbled across this gallery on the 60s reality behind the series—and, most notably, this stunning August 1965 photo of the actress, model, sex symbol, and trailblazing French siren Brigitte Bardot.

I just started Season 3 of Mad Men yesterday and I’m still obsessed.  But who am I kidding, this post is really just an excuse to reblog this gorgeous photograph of the incomparable BB.

Yesterday I stumbled across these wonderful illustrations by Sandra Suy for a Chinese publication called ROUGE Magazine.  The artist chose classic icons of the past (here it’s BB) and dressed them in contemporary fashions from the Fall 2011 collections.  Lovely!

Brigitte Bardot

Yesterday was Brigitte Bardot’s 77th anniversaire.  I know she’s turned into a bit of a controversial mess in her later years and I certainly don’t endorse her current political views, but I do have a soft spot for her films from the ’50s and ’60s and there is no denying her original beauty or status as a French icon.

Photograph of Brigitte Bardot vs. Waiting (ca. 1882) by Edgar Degas

I’ve never seen this particular photograph of a young Brigitte Bardot before and when it came across my dash I immediately thought of this painting by Edgar Degas.  I’d really like to know more about the history behind this photograph since it’s obviously a re-creation of the painting.  Does anyone know?

I posted this on my other blog yesterday and thought I would see if anyone following here has any ideas?  As an art historian who used to specialize in 19th-century French painting (especially Impressionism) and who now focuses on French cinema (especially the French New Wave), I have an invested interest in both images.  Help s’il vous plaît!
